The beginning of a new year is often a deeply retrospective time. We are handed a clean slate and fresh hope to begin again with the wisdom of everything that has come before. We get a new dawn at the start of each day- the sun and her budding flowers act like our universal reset, yet the close of one year into another brings with it a greater depth and impact within us. Life is about movement- it is a walk through a passage of time, and our time is now! Here are 3 reasons to move with purpose in 2018!
- Dust off what does not serve you
Sometimes the things that we hold onto are more out of habit rather than essential to our purpose and way of life right now. Walking through nature’s transient bounty helps us to strip away the out-worn and the out-grown. It is a mini soul cleanse, whereby we reflect on what we hold onto and grind so painfully within us. Nature teaches us the power of letting go and release, we focus on finding the beauty in whatever has lost its shine and open our eyes to what we can create from it that supports us now. The coldest winters bring forth the gentle glory of spring… sift through old feelings, thoughts, and habits and only internalize what has authenticity at its centre.
“Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go”- Hermann Hesse
- Remember your dreams and goals
Sometimes in order to move forward, we need to step back. It is so easy to lose ourselves when time seems to slip so swiftly through our fingers. When you venture out on your walking practice it touches you back to ‘you’. Time appears to slow down when you shift your direction from an outward need to fulfill duties and tasks to an inward awareness of who you are and what you actually want. We can find inspiration to recall and reach for our deeper desires and ambitions when we put ourselves first and value our aspirations. There are many of us, but only one ‘you’, your dreams count.
“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”- Walt Disney
- Your health is your wealth
It’s in our nature to look outwardly for riches and comfortable living, and yet our health often suffers in the push for this type of gain. Obviously we all need to ensure that we are well fed and clothed with as much comfort as we can muster for ourselves, but we should not lose sight of our health and well-being. It’s not just the physical aspect of walking that moves us toward better health, it’s largely the effect that wandering through natural land bestows upon our mental and emotional state too. Nature enriches us without even trying- she channels beams of gold back into our heart, mind and soul.
“Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity”- Hippocrates
Let’s not make resolutions based on ideals of perfection that fade and falter. Intentions are far more powerful and carry the mark of your own soul signature. Decide how you want to begin a new year and ground yourself in your truth as
